We’re excited to announce our Student Ambassador of the Month for July — Johan Latorre from Pennsylvania State College of Medicine.
What year of your studies are you in?
What is your area of interest in medicine?
Why do you like this field of medicine?
I like this field because it has a bit of everything. We have clinic and surgery. You see sports injuries, but you also see congenital issues and cancer. Not to mention you get to help out kids, which is always nice. There aren’t many medical emergencies, but you are able to make a huge impact on their quality of life.
If you could only have 1 piece of medical equipment, what would it be?
What would an orthopedist be without X-Rays? I feel as though I can perform a pretty thorough History and Physical without any tools, but sometimes you need a deeper look to make that diagnosis.
If you didn’t work in health care, what would you do?
I would probably be making experimental music at the behest of my professor. I took his music class, and he told me I should create an album just to gain some experience and see what comes up out of it. Personally, I doubt it would have been able to sustain me as my sole source of income, so I would probably be working for a non-profit in the medical field as my primary job.
